Doesnt Eggshell paint have a flat (not shiny) but slightly rough texture to it?

I have just painted cabinets with Dulux Eggshell and it is mid-sheen - when did eggshell become un-eggshell-like? I'm fuming

Hi weeal, eggshell paint has a finish like a Vinyl Silk emulsion. It is a mid-sheen finish as you call it and it has a flat finish not rough texture.
...the man in the shed is dead right Jelly Tot...................it's just an oil based answer to vinyl really.
You can get dead flat paint, but, it marks up terribly (fingers etc)...............especially on kitchen cabs, which I guess is what you're doing?
Hi, thanks for that The Builder. Weeal if you really want to get good finish on cabinet doors there are paints on the market which are especially made for this purpose and can be bought at most DIY stores. There is also a thing called Fablon Plus which gives a great hardwearing finish. Takes a bit of work to put on but the finish is good and it is scrubbable. Remember though that time spend preparing will show in the finished item. Even bits of dust on a cabinet door will show up in the finish. You can buy special cloths at most DIY stores to pick up dust they are called tack cloths.
Was it oil or water-based eggshell? The water based paints do tend to have more of a sheen to them.
Did you stir the paint before you used it ? If you didn't, then this could have something to do with it.

Hi, thanks all for your replies, I am painting build-in cubpards either side of my chimney breast wall in the living room and definitely dont want any shine whatsoever. In the past I have used what was called eggshell and it really did appear like an egg shell, eg no shine and not smooth at all.
It was a lot of hard work and now I will an even harder job sanding it all down again - I could cry lol
Carrust it was oil based and a real treat to clean the brushes lol
I used to use oil-based eggshell with artist oils to create faux marble finishes and it was nothing like this gloss stuff. I think Im going off my head.
Do any of you know the finish Im trying to create??

You're right Al..........years ago oil egshell really was like that..................no shine, and a dimpled surface rather like a.................

................an eggshell LOL

I'll look into it for you.
In the meantime....you don't have to sand it all off.........just take the worst of the shine off.........and hope we can find the right stuff :o)

Hiya hunkychunk, phew someone remembers the old eggshell lol

I am also on the case

So not in the mood to do it all again just yet, need to let some steam off first
The only eggshell I've used is the traditional one which has a low sheen level (something between matt & satinwood). I've googled around & found this; http://www.paint-paper.co.uk/paints-stains/pai nt-paper-library/flat-oil-2-5-litre/prod_90.ht ml
