whats wrong with my washing machine??

My washing machine appears to have done half a cycle then stopped, the only light working on the machine is the door open light. It will not do anything at all now??

when you say door open light is that a light that would normally tell you door is open or one that says the door can be opened?

Where has it stopped in the cycle, has it got water in it?

I think the door open light comes on when the machine has finished. There was no water in the machine however some of the clothes were wetter than they would normally have been, The soap powder had passed through the dispenser but the conditioner hadn't.

will it really not do anything at all? is it a digital one or an old style dial one? if it's a digital one turn it off at wall for 10 min to see if that resets it.

if it really won't do anything first thing I would check would be the door interlock switch (main power passes through this first so if the doors open the machine wont do anything) then assuming again it's totally dead I would be tracing the power round the machine to try and find where it stopped.

In all honesty washing machines are not really an easy diy repair for things like this, best bet is to call somebody in to have a look.
