I have painted my hall ceiling recently,( 3 coats) but it still looks really patchy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why and is there any way of rectifying? Many Thanks.

Is this because of staining from old damp patches,or nicotine or because you are trying to cover a very dark colour with a light one.

If it is staining then try a couple of coats of sealer.

something like this

If it is previous damp try something like this

Hi, another answer to your problem if you dont want to go to the expense of buying in specialist things is to mix white gloss and undercoat together in equal quantities then apply 1 good coat to the patches or the entire ceiling and and allow it to dry. That should stop the stains coming back then paint the ceiling as normal. Good luck.
