Hi, I have to lacquer/varnish these boards in a bedroom and interior varnish seems expensive, can I use exterior wood stain as the interior suggests for 'light traffic' when this isn't gonna be the case. Of course exterior seems more durable but don't want boards to end up ruined any suggestions please?

First rule...don't skimp, or you'll end up regretting it. Get a good quality floor varnish like Sadolin's. Sure, it'll cost you around 20 for a 3ltr can, and you have to follow the instructions quite carefully when putting it down. But this is the stuff they use on wooden shop floors, and look at the wear it has to put up with. It'll outlast you.
