In most tumble dryers the heating elements are in the back of the unit. There is generally some form of circular type cover. Generally the heating elements are within this- often the cables to the elements break where the exit the main body of the unit- though this often causes a fuse to blow! Possibly the heating element has failed. If you dont know electrics best to leave it to someone who does. If you want a look- make sure its unplugged!!!
One possible cause could be that the filter is blocked with lint/fibres. This would have caused the dryer to overheat the last time it was used and activated the safety cut-out on the thermostat. If it is this, you will need a repair man or an electrician.

Whatever it is, it's probably best left to an expert, it's not worth risking blowing up the house : )
If yours has different heat settings it's possible that the switch has got knocked to the 'low' position.

Otherwise the element's gone. Probably nearly as cheap to get a new dryer as to get it repaired.

thankyou all
Or it could be that the thermostat has failed. Some have two fitted.

On my washer dryer the thermostat can trip if the dryer part overheats usually because the vent out has become full of fluff.

the last time this happened I found that there was a reset button on the thermostat and when the machine was cleaned out and the reset pushed it worked ok.

NB If you look inside make sure you switch the appliance off - dont want a shock.

try what i said in this question. it worth a try it worked for me. i thought our machine was wrecked when i first bought it as it was the first one we had with a water container in it and not just a heat extracting pipe
