Problem Grouting Tiles.

Just grouted a splash back in a kitchen. Tiles are slightly beveled at edges (I mean there is a slight slope at each edge.) The sides of the tiles are not faced and so are dark even though the tiles are Ivory. When grouting I am finding it very difficult not to leave a thin dark edge around the tiles. How can I judge the depth correctly to stop the dark edge showing?
Also a few of the tiles actually fell off on me even though put on 24 hours previously. What am I doing wrong. Have done many day tiling jobs before with no problem.

Hi, what tool are you using to grout? Do you have a foam grout pad? Also did you use rapid set adhesive for the tiles? If not then it could be still setting. Let me know
