I have removed the front cover and unscrewed the lid anti-clockwise
Should the lid come off/out completely or just loosen up?

Do you mean the filter?

If you are referring to the filter then you may need to pull while tilting downwards.

No it's the pump that needs doing - just watched a YouTube clip
To be honest it looks like it needs a new pump so I think I might just get another washer
