I want to convert my sash windows to casement--(to allow easier cleaning).
Can anyone tell me where I can get the conversion kit of hinges and handles-- and perhaps a sketch of the operation.
Thanks guys

The frames of a sash really aren't suitable for a direct conversion, I'm afraid.
You could replace them with modern sliding sash ones. They have a spiral spring balance instead of the weights and pulleys. They also tip inwards for cleaning.

Otherwise........ take out the sashes and sash bead etc. Leave the pockets and frame in place, and fit a modern casement window inside that.
It does all depend on what sizes you have. A small undersize can easily be made up with timber infill.
Yes you can convert.
Best way is first to invest in one of these .. my favourite tool of the moment.

Cut out sash recesses in frame .. and as builder says .. fit new casements into it.
It's important to emphasis about the squareness of the openings tho.
Many sashes seem to go out of square on old buildings. Weakness in their design I think.
Personally, I would replace with modern tilt sash replacements .. so they look the same!

Buying a Bosch Multitool and a Bosch Detail Sander would work out a heck of a lot cheaper, Al, and do much the same job as does the Fein kit. For further economy, buy delta sanding pads from Lidl when they have them. (Incidentally, Bosch and Fein attachments fit each other's tools).
You can chuck the Fein about tho. It's a well solid bit of kit.
Much togher than the Bosch .. that's not really up to trade use.
You pay your money tho ... and take your choice.
