Does anyone know the identity of this Earl from the following description in the introduction to S&S;

'By the time he was in his 60s he searched for embraces among 'the sad creatures who make a business of love.' He also had a face lift operation in Mayfair and paraded the result in Cannes.

I think it is probably the 10th earl of Shaftesbury,see here:~

Thanks for both your answers. I realised on further reflection that Shaftesbury was mentioned in the Introduction and, had I not been so stupid, I could have worked it out for myself.
