No I'm serious.what could I buy. 2 pints of milk, a pound of sausages, a quarter pound of tea, or 10% of my rent. What was the cost of living in the U.K.in 1920.Please .

I am watching old reruns of 'When The Boat Comes In' which is set in the early 1920s. I must admit I haven't been taking much notice of amounts of money when it has been mentioned, except in the episode I watched today where children were buying toffee for a ha'penny.
In the fifties, black jacks, fruit salad and flying saucers were four for 1d
I remember you could buy 5 Woodbine cigarettes for two pence
with the currency converter from the link above a pint in my local in 1970 which was 10p, today should be £1.03

today it is actually £2.10p
