The answerbank feature is good, but this isn't new. Lomas and Knight published their work on this in 1997, in the book "Second Messiah". It's a superb book and I recommend it highly.

Has there been any further progress since then, does anybody know? The excavation of Rosslyn Chapel would be wonderful news.

Here's the Answerbank article, by the way: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Article.go?id=3220 It suggests the shroud may show the face not of Jesus but Jacques de Molay, last grandmaster of the Knights Templar, who died in 1314.

There are interesting developments in the theory that the C-14 carbon-dating tests were flawed because of the presence of mediaeval repairs on much older material - ie what was tested was much newer than the Shroud as a whole. Ray Rogers has published more on that. Also news that the 30 'Chambery Clare' patches (fixes following the 1532 fire) have recently, secretly and controversially bewen removed from the Shroud.
