Why is this rank pronounced "Leftenant" in the army but "Lootenant" in the navy?

As far as I'm aware the British say 'Leftennant' and the Americans say 'Lootennant'..................in all branches of the military.

It isn't.

The rank is pronounced "Leftenant" in British English but "Lootenant" in US English.

Royal Navy still uses term "Lootenant". I know cos I served in the Navy.

Sorry, McMouse, but you're wrong. The Royal Navy say 'leftennant' rather than 'lootennant'. I know this because i also served in the RN and only left in 2004.
