I remember a programme about a scottish teenager (girl). The title was her name and it was all about her and her family. Ithink it was along the lines of she wanted to better herself! The signature tune was by a scottish pop singer whose name I also can't remember. Any ideas?

Was it called Maggie? Not sure where I got this from, but your qquestion seemed to ring a bell.
spoke to my other half...he reckons it was Maggie too. Theme by BA Robertson perhaps? No, maybe not.....
Maggie was a teen drama (BBC2, 1981-2)from the novel by Joan Lingard, and starring Kirsty Millar as Maggie McKinley. The theme song was sung by BA Robertson who also appeared in the first series of the teen comedy, Dear Heart, which was also in the same 6pm slot. All I can remember of it is her grandmother who had claustrophobia being stuck in a lift at the end of episode one, but I don't think I went back to see if she got out. According to a useful website called TV Cream, the "titles had her looking desolate on a kids' playground", which probably explains why it's no longer on.
