In order to answer that question...you have to ask youself...when did England itself begin? Many people consider that the first King of England was the Norman William the Conquerer, who outsted Harold the Saxon, and seized control of Britain.

the earliest king i can remember is alfred the great who reigned around 700ad, give or take a century.
