What is it with kids dressing like they do? You know what I mean, the elasticated ankle trackie bottoms, black socks, trainers, peculiar sweattops and baseball caps. I can understand some fashions but these fool-lets look like complete idiots. Where did this dire fashion trend/mistake originate? Elasticated ankles?? Blimey, it's like they've been dressed by their mams.

anything to make an identity statement, they no different to how we were as kids; choose a dressfad that's Not ridiculous.. the original youth culture [1950's] wore outrageous styles in comparison to their parents, that's why they do it, as Eddie Cochran said 'That's something else!' :-)
I think it is due to a fear of appearing different. The basic wardrobe is easy to follow and allows for variations on a general style. Each item of clothing can be varied e.g. nike or adidas trainers, within a comforting framework. It allows young people to be different at the same time as being conformist e.g I've got rarer and more expensive trainers then you. Anyone who tries to dress differently (e.g. Goths) are derided by the majority, thus reinforcing the need to stay within the basic framework of trainers, trackie bottoms, polo shirt and baseball cap.

Wow! Just over a year ago I posted this, not knowing that I was at the time identifying the burgeoning sub-culture of the Chav. There's still no excuses for the crassness of the dress, but at least we know what to call them now!
