I was sitting in my bedroom today when a Magpie flew outside my window. I didn't even know it was a Magpie until I looked it up. Does it mean bad luck or sorrow for me?

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret
Never to be told

The magpie is also a symbol of good fortune in Chinese culture. It's call is very similar to human laughter, hence the resemblance of joy.

So I wouldn't worry too much ! It's just folklore.
I do hope you remembered to say "Good Morning Mr: Magpie" !

No I didn't cause I didn't know it was a Magpie, I'm well scared
No, it doesn't, indeed I think it makes you lucky, because there was only one of the vile things.

If there had been two they probably would have been croaking and chattering incessantly to each other in that way that drives me bananas.

They raid other birds nests, eat their young, make a foul noise, and appear now to be outnumbering even pigeons.

Thanks Whiffey, you have made me feel a lot better, thanks again
As shaney says it is just folklore. Unfortunately one that is ingrained in my subconcious though and when I see one of the blighters I often say 'morning Mr Magpie, how is Mr Magpie?'

I think if you see one on it's own it's lunlucky for them as it would appear that they don't have a mate.
that should be 'how is Mrs Magpie' and then I search the sky for it's mate. Madness really.
No. It's a bird. It doesn't care that it flew past your window and you didn't see it.

It means nothing.

xx
All it means is that a Magpie flew past your window ... nothing more ... calm down
We're doomed I tell you all doomed !
I always say ''Hello Mr Magpie, how's your wife & family?''

I love magpies!!
hi yep sorrow Im afraid!!
