The Jews were associated with the ritual murder of children during the Middle Ages. This was supposed to represent their hatred of Christianity and innocence.
The folk song Sir Hugh relates the story of the murder of a little boy by Jews in Lincoln. St Thomas of Norwich was a twelve year old boy supposedly murdered in ritual practices in Thorp Wood in 1144.
I thought the use of the word myth in this instance made it clear we were talking about imaginary and fictitious reasoning, mycats. I wasn't suggesting the Jews were actually comitting ritualistic murders of children and apologise if anyone thought I was.
The death of St Thomas was whipped up as anti Jewish propaganda by Bishop Eborard, but the local sheriff protected the Jews from the show trials the church insisted upon.
very pro jewish..?? what on earth does that mean? it's a bit like saying "some of my friends are black..! " when the question of racism rears it's head in a conversation As if you somehow feel compelled to appear liberal and worthy by highlighting in a supposed positive way the one thing that racists always refer to - the colour of someones skin!
Perhaps mycats is Jewish gessoo?Or perhaps, like me, she has a Jewish partner. It's very easy to take the defensive in such circumstances as the spectre of anti Jewishness is far more prevalent than many people think. I don't think it is an unusual thing to say and I don't think it's a thing that deserves derision.
I would like to apologise once again if people have taken offence at my original answer. I swear I was not intending to suggest that such ritual murders were being committed by the Jewish community, but this was the unpleasant propaganda aimed at the Jewish population in the medieval period.
The Jews have been subjected to discrimination for thousands of years, but the illogical justification behind such abuse is presented in many different ways throughout history. This happens to be the bizarre justification in medieval England.
Thank you Nox :-) as it happens I'm not Jewish, but have done a lot of research on the Jewish people, their history etc I think they are a facinating people and cant hardly believe some of the things they have been through.

Gammaray whose kicked your kennel? I've never seen mycats make a single racist comment and what you said in both of your posts was innappropriate so you've either misunderstood or your just rude and ill informed, so which is it?Why does everyone have to be so bloody nasty on here lately?

"I'm very pro Jewish"... racist for the reasons I outlined in my original answer. One of the worst forms of racism is a pernicious form from well meaning do-gooders claiming support for an ethnic group, or in this case an entire religious section of the population that they don't infact belong to, purely because they feel the persons or groups concerned aren't capable of defending themselves. The issue being that those perpetrating this abuse have no clue that their "support" is infact offensive.
...and for the record. I'm Jewish and I found it offensive. I suppose though because I have a point of view that differs from the consenscious I'm not allowed to hold an opinion. Perhaps I should remember my place and wait for mycats to tell me what to think! After all who better to advise than someone who has read all about our past and continued struggle.
