I know Victoria had the longest reign 63 years and died aged 81, but is she the oldest known english monarch or did someone with a shorter reign live to an older age? If so, when will Elizabeth II surpass that?

Queen Victoria was the oldest person ever to be the reigning monarch (surviving five days longer than her grandfather George III who died aged 81 years 7 months and 25 days).

For Queen Elizabeth II to attain this honour she must survive beyond 21st December 2007.

and she looks, God bless her maj, as though she might

remember that age of death is most highly associated with the median age of death of the parents. QM getting to 101 I think

Well, I didn't know Quizmonster was 101 - or one of the Queen's parents! Blimey!.........:-)

Kempie - many thanks.

PP - What is the median of two numbers? (Most of us only have two parents). So if QM died at 101 and GVI at 56, what is the median age? If, on average, children die somewhere between the ages of their parents, doesn't that contradict that on average we are all living longer? I suppose that's possible if people with children live longer than people without children. But I doubt it.
