does anyone know of a street which may have been in blackburn prewar called four houses, my wifes famil history has ground to a halt

If you live in Blackburn the main reference library will have detailed maps and papers etc.

The Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society has a branch in Blackburn, if u havn't contacted them yet you should
Try contacting the local museum in Blackburn, and failing that, try a Freedom of Information request to the council - they will hold GIS maps of the borough going back years and should be able to help.

It's worth mentioning that putting

fourhouses blackburn

into Google produced a single result of "30 Oct 1814 Mary daughter of Samuel and Mary Dalton, Fourhouses, weaver" on a genealogy site. This suggests it might be in Oldham. Could this be right?

just to avoid any more confusion, that peachy post was me using my daughters puter round at her place earlier but not realising i hadn't changed the signing in name! sorry
