I have a print of a church with a lych gate entrance and would like to know is this an actual church or just a fictional one drawn by someone. The verse below the print states it is a church on Marlow Hill, an old parish church with a thick set sturdy tower. The title of the print is Evensong. Picture was orignally drawn by an S. Read. It is a Victorian scene of people going to church on an evening. Does anyone know of this church, is it still there, in ruins etc? I would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks. Darcy

..... and here is an Evensong to be going on with (sorry I am unable to help with the rest) ...........

Only Marlow Hill I have ever come across is the one between M40 at High Wycombe and Marlow, in Bucks - and definitely no old church there as described. Marlow, Little Marlow (lived there for a while) Marlow Bottom - but no Marlow Hill as a seperate place.

Maybe do a bit of digging around the High Wycombe connection to see if there is any record of a demolished curch at all, though unlikely. The area at the top of the hill is post 1920's developed housing. Also has a 1980's sports centre. Housing all the way doen the hill. At the bottom before the town, there is a hospital and what once was Loakes Park, Wycombe Wanderers football ground (now gone) (useless fact - used to have the steepest slope of a pitch width-wise in the FA league)

Opposite is Wycombe Abbey girls school - connections with the Verney family (Civil War facts) but can't recall a church, again.

Not really what you asked but sets the scene...
