Just watched the film Dambusters for the umpteenth time, was wondering if there are any figures on how many people in the Ruhr valley were killed as a result of the Dams being burst?

1,294 people died as a result of the flooding caused by the breaches in the Eder and the Mohne. Ironically enough the effects on Germany's wartime production were limited - they repaired the dams pretty quickly.

Thanks for that Giles, where'd you get the info from?
I heard or read somewhere (can't remember where) that among the casualties were Australian and New Zealand PoWs in a camp just below the Moehne dam.
