i see starbucks are running an ad campaign about "every name tells a story" ive seen a couple , one where the boy is transgender and is happy he's "allowed" to use his name and one with the (?) actress. Great.
But it really really annoys me that SB even ask for a name. I was in there once and they asked for my name when i was the only person int he shop. I asked them why and they said it "was policy" but does it annoy anyone else or just me?
All sorts of companies/ shops seem to try and implement what they see as company policies , like they tried to collect every ones email, to bombard them with email adds, you just say no thanks.
It's not somewhere I visit and if not comfy with it I'd give a nickname.
They state...
//Starbucks: "Taking a customer’s name, writing it on a cup and calling it out is a symbol of our warm welcome. It is part of the Starbucks Experience and creates a moment of connection between our baristas and customers.//
They also ran a diversity campaign featuring some of the ads and won awards for them.
You could have been a mystery shopper, and when you came to filling in your report and came to the question 'did they ask your name?' And they hadn't so you answered 'no', that member of staff would have got a reprimand, been sent for retraining or even sacked. That's why they do it.
I'll stick to getting my 250 grams of ground coffee from the supermarket for £2.30. It lasts me over two weeks. Whats the going rate for this Starbucks great coffee??
That goes some way to explaining the advert I couldn't understand when they kept calling someone Gemma yet in Starbucks the name given was James. The meaning was lost on me - I couldn't understand what it had to do with coffee.
