Friday 21 October - Trafalgar Day -(:)but i dare say there be things going on all weekend....(:)

The climax of the celebrations will end with a bit of a knees up this Sunday in Trafalgar Square - looks good.

200 years ago...bloody hell...only..seems..like..yesterday...... Battle of Britain, El Alamein, the chatterbank..wars.......Stalingrad, the Atlantic, and Normandy ...( :)

.....and you dared to accuse me once of rambling :-D

No doubt there will be some who say it is morally wrong to celebrate this event! to$$ers!
Well I am looking forward to it.Lots of celebrations here in my area.Nelson was a Norfolk man which a lot of people tend to forget and landed in the town whereI live when he came back from Italy after the battle of the Nile. There is a a superb exhibition in our local museum of Nelson memorabilia and our Nelsons Column has been spruced up for the occasion. I hasten to add it has Brittania atop of it not Nelson !!
Church bells will be ringing out here on Friday.
Reminds me of a funny story. A good few years ago I was at the parade for Trafalgar Day in Liverpool in an official capacity. My mother told everyone I was taking the salute at the march past. I wasn't. I was the salute base marker. ie the person that triggers the order 'Eyes Right'. The person taking the salute was an Admiral, I wasn't.
