It's no different to the OTT xmas lightshows people bedeck their houses with every December Far too many 'lowering the tone of the neighbourhood' whingers in this country
No we are not be-decked but next door has the cross of St George hanging out of the front bedroom window. Nice touch, wonder if he will remove it if England don't get through ...
Nope. The house at the end of my street has the union flag and the Georges flag....24/7 52 weeks a year and has done for at least the last 20 years. Haven't see any flags besides them.
Am I the only one who thinks there's no English spirit this world cup?
As I've said many times before I've ALWAYS got the cross of St George on my car number plates and I fly the flag on special days.Round here though there aren,t all that many flags flying.
The lady in the flat next to mine has a flag on the balcony. She told me that local police want flags taken down as they offend other groups...eg,local Polish.....:O
No definately not. I always think of some BNP wallah claiming his bit of England when I see that.
Having said that a friends daughter put two flags outside her car windows and forgot about them, opend the window and lost them on the M62 somewhere.
Given that I live in N. Wales they're in short supply around here, however I don't mind them.
It's only once every 4 years and it doesn't harm to be proud of one's nation, though I do feel for England fans because in this PC era it's seen as far too jingoistic, bordering on racist for some pathetic reason.
In John O'Farrell's book, An Utterly Impartial History Of Britain, there is a wonderful (imagined) conversation between a lad and his mother from around the year 1145. "Mu-um! The second crusade's about to start. Can we have a St George's flag on the chariot?" Reply, "No darling. We don't want people to thing Daddy's a builder."
