Once saw a policeman driving on the Newbury by-pass whilst simultaneously stuffing his face with a grab-bag of walkers cheese and onion crisps.
i saw two policemen in a patrol car, neither were wearing any seatbelts, one was smoking and the other was eating a cream cake whilst tapping out some beats on the dashboard

over to......

used to see a rather rotund one in Folkestone on a regular basis,
no seatbelt, and always a can of drink or a sarnie in hand!
Yes.
Maybe it was an ecig.
Was it Columbo?
Didn't think that they were allowed to smoke in patrol cars.

It was the smoking that surprised me. Isn't there some kind of regulation in the Police Force that forbids officers smoking on duty ?

Perhaps there isn't !
Been watching too much of the Sweeny on ITV4!
Did you get the registration number? This is illegal and the officers will be disciplined or even sacked.
Illegal?
What act and section is that then?
It's illegal to smoke in a works vehicle.
Seen policemen illegally parked whilst they go shopping.

In the old days is was frowned upon for them to be seen eating take-aways in public. They used to carry there fish and chips back to the station in their helmet, lol!
Leave them alone, they do a very difficult job
It may be seen as the officer's place of work and an enclosed space. I'm pretty certain that there have been drivers of vans done for it, on some curious interpretation of the law
was this them?

What we don't know is if the officers were actually on duty.!! Furthermore, some are known to use their patrol cars for all sorts of purposes !!

Al.
Of course they do psybbo

That's why it's important they do it in accordance with the standards laid down for it.

Broken window syndrome - when there's poor professional standards from a few and it goes uncorrected the message sent is that standards are not important
It doesn't matter what the purpose is - it is illegal to smoke in a company / works vehicle whether it is being driven during working hours or not.

A police car or a company lorry/van/car is a 'workplace' under the health and safety rules it is illegal to smoke in a workplace. It is the same as smoking in an office or factory all are 'workplaces'. In addition to this there are separate rules that police officers can not smoke on duty.
