These people did as much to protect the freedom of the UK in the Second World War as "the few", IMO yet, with the possible exception of Alan Turing, no-one has heard of any of them.
The main reason for this was that Turing was gay - surely we're past that now...?
They are all national heroes, every bit the equal of Wellington, Nelson, Montgomery and Churchill.

It is truly sad that not everyone know what this lady and many more did to protect the future generations.
My husband and i were very lucky to make friends with an elderly lady in our village we knew her for 20+ years it was not until she was dying that we knew she worked at Bletchley - we knew she was a highly intelligent woman and we knew she worked with the first computers but for whatever reason she decided to keep it secret.
So to Sigrid, Imogen and Julie - Bless you all and thank you

The main reason for this was that Turing was gay - surely we're past that now...?
Not sure about you, but for many people the reason why Alan Turing's name is well known is because of the way the establishment treated him after he was convicted for gross indecency with another man (not the kind of 'gross indency' we have now, where you have to be witnessed outside for example).
He was chemically castrated by the government of the country he loved (played a significant part in saving in WWII) and then committed suicide in his early 40s.
I think that this is why he's well known...not 'just' because he was gay.
