Not sure about anyone else but i don't care for shopping all that much. It has to be done, so just another chore. Standing in a long queue in sainsbury's earlier, the young guy on the checkout was as slow as a tortoise. I got to head of the queue finally, he pointed to the shopping,
- what's that he said, i said courgettes, not a flicker of recognition, it's not exactly rare, so just what do the young eat? Funny in a way i suppose...

Question Author
probably a wise move, was rather late today as well so it was packed.
We queued at the deli counter in Sainsburys yesterday, while a gentleman asked the assistant to desribe ALL of the cheeses on offer! She was very patient and polite, then he decided he'd have some cold meat and finished. As the lenthening queue heaved a sigh of relief, he came back again and finally chose a small piece of cheese, We felt like applauding the assistant, A passing manager even called for back up for her. 20+ minutes

sibton, that was beyond the call of duty, i must admit the lad serving today was sweet but didn't seem to have a clue.
One of the reasons why we go early or late..... nobody else there.
Question Author
normally i do, but other stuff got in the way, usually there early as possible.
Shopping..Ugh!...horrible pastime which my lovely mrs comm adores..so as a dutiful slave I put up with as though it is my one desire in life...Oh dear aren't we good to these girls..
The thing that annoys me in the inevitable checkout queue is that to women, it seems to come as a great surprise that they have to actually pay for their stuff..."ninety nine ninety nine madam please!"...mmm...then they start to delve into the dark interior of their tote to find some form of payment..eventually they discover maybe a credit card or some other form of payment which takes them at least 20 minutes to make the paymeny....Oh god ..I HATE shopping...:-((
Not me Commoner, I have my bags packed and my card in the machine before the total is on the till display.
Question Author
you would have hated the ladies who couldn't decide how to pay, two separate bills, then they decided on the self checkout, which in fact was worse, slow, slow, then stop. The assistant had to help them out on every item, all the while queues were building, not for the faint of heart.
Commoner, you forgot to mention how it is then necessary to carefully return credit card to the appropriate slot in purse. Precisely fold the receipt and safely secure in purse. Return purse to appropriate section of handbag. Look up and see the devil stares from the shoppers behind you..........
I'm with you commoner. Pulleeze ladies at least have your purse/card ready. It's not as if you're going to be mugged in a checkout queue!

i confess that there are more pleasurable ways to spend one's time.
The staff in our Sainsburys are amazing, polite, friendly and helpful (we don't have as many options as you have on the mainland). We always go together so one is loading our bags and the other is paying and collecting Nectar points. I appreciate that if one is on his/her own it may take longer
Question Author
