The invetor of the camera was Joseph-Nicephore Niepce, a retired officer of the french army. His first photograph, that of the pear tree in his yard, was taken in 1827.
Some sources say George Eastmann invented the "photographic" camera in 1888. Other sources say that Leonardo DaVinci in vented the "camera obscura" in 1515, while still others say "It is unknown exactly who invented the camera obscura and when." Still another opinion..."On a summer day in 1827, it took eight hours for Joseph Nicphore Nipce to obtain the first fixed image. About the same time a fellow Frenchman, Louis Jacques Mand Daguerre was experimenting to find a way to capture an image." http://www.rleggat.com/photohistory/history/cameraob.htm http://www.rleggat.com/photohistory/history/camera
