There was a post regarding Pointless the BBC 1Television programme ,the contestant did not know the answer to a question regarding The Rolling Stones despite being in her twenties certain ABers consider people who do not know the answer to a question that our ABer Genius would be able to answer are Idiots is this fair ,surely this is insulting ,if our Genius was face to face with this person ,maybe a teacher,a superior in the workplace would it be correct manners to call someone an idiot ,or is this how it starts hiding behind a computer ,The girl was unable to answer a question on Daytime TV and the first thing that comes to mind is "Some People are Idiots" ,is that your final answer .
What do the rest of ABers think, interesting.

Yes...people are too quick to judge and put people down.

What? How am I on your back?

I was the first to defend her, just after a regular had referred to her as an Idiot, though probably without knowing the facts.

///The Girl who gave that answer was a 20ish year old, why should she know the names of The Stones, I find it odd that you think she would!///
Lol...

Jordy...You do know that CB type chat is frowned upon in serious topics?

Some of your jokes are just not funny. I actually asked you once if you'd laughed at the joke you'd posted and you admitted you hadn't.

I have no problem with your choice of music but it did become very tedious when you were continually posting youtube links in threads unrelated to music or the song you'd posted.

I wasn't the only person who pointed this out but it's only me you seem to remember.

None of the above is putting you down.
lets stick to the topic folks please ;-)

Ummmm/jordy, im leaving ummm's reply as it does answer your question, but i'd prefer now (im sure mo and others would too) if your grievance could be dropped from this thread.

(removes mod hat)
The Stones were making their name in the 60s, nearly 50 years ago. Imagine being young then and being asked a question then about an entertainer who had been a star in the 1910s.
'Who was on the bill with Marie Lloyd when she first starred at the Hackney Empire?', would have puzzled most of us.
I think that the perception is that if you consider yourself to be 'bright' enough to enter a televised quiz show.....you ought to have a good all-round general knowledge. And many people on these TV shows simply don't.
to put it in perspective I showed a picture of this to my 9 year old and asked if she knew what it was...

She didn't.
What is it BOO? :-)
Whilst agreeing that many of us are quick to judge ,it is hard not to when a second year university student ,studying geography, when faced with a geography question with five choices to pick an answer from said she would have to guess.
she's not an idiot if i was asked about rappers etc i wouldn't have a scobby
Some people on this site take themselves far too seriously, imo.
It's clearly a small case to hold the needles for your gramaphone.
I have to say that when questions are about modern music, I not only can't answer the questions, I'm no wise when I hear the answers!
I used to think that people were a bit thick if they didn't know something that I did, simply because I thought that if I know it then surely everyone else must. However, I think it was Chris Tarrant on Who wants to be a millionaire that said something like, 'It's only easy if you know the answer' and that is very true. So now it doesn't surprise me at all if someone doesn't know the answer to a question no matter how easy I think it is and no-one should be called names because of it.
No, she isn't an idiot, none of us know every answer to every question. I do have to say though, it really, really annoys me when a contestant says "oh that's a bit before my time" when asked a question. By that reckoning, none of us should know anything at all about anything in history.
//The Stones were making their name in the 60s, nearly 50 years ago. Imagine being young then and being asked a question then about an entertainer who had been a star in the 1910s. //

the difference though, sandy, is that 50 years after her music hall appearance in 1910, marie Lloyd had been out of the public eye for more than 30 years. whereas, 50 years after their inauguration the rolling stones (and the bee-gees, who were mis-identified in the same question) were still performing and recording, and were still prominent in public life.
Calling someone an idiot is really a cheap shot...no one knows everything.
