Craft could you please have a look for this guy on FMP? He's not showing in 1901 on ancestry, it;s Arthur Smallwood Middleton b 1874 Clifton York, married Mary Jane Goodall in 1897 and then ended up having all those illegitimate kids with the other woman, Mary Jane is a servant (married) in 1901 in Acomb, York but Arthur is no where. His father was David Middleton who died in Montreal in 1928 and I think Arthur went to Montreal about 1895 but was back in 1897 to marry Mary Jane.

Any chance you can pick him up?

I thought we found him last night with Annie.......was that not him?
Question Author
not in 1901, he's with Annie Fowler in 1911 and his parents in 1891, he's not with his legal wife in 1901 anyway.
Oh right.....I'll look on genealogist.

Cheers, I've to set off to pick my son up now and won;t be back on here til after work tomorrow evening craft, night.
There were 50 Arthur Middletons with a birth year within 5 years of 1874, and none of them were him.
I've noticed he's in quite a few family trees on ancestry. yet not one of them has the 1901 census details for him.

Hi craft, yes I saw that too, I think it's possible he was either nit in the country, but left Mary Jane at home, or he has been mis-transcribed, though I have tried to cover that angle.
Hi Dotty, I have just seen you question. My great grandfather was Arthur Smallwood Middleton and my grandmother May was one of the illegitimate children of the other woman who was Annie Fowler. Was David Middleton from Canada or did he emigrate from the UK?
