the surname Hardigate.

Can't trace it on any sites at all.

This looks like a tough one - I looked at the UCL website www.spatial-literacy.org/uclnames/default.aspx
where they have done massive research on surnames in the UK and couldn't find this name - which means there are less than 100 on the electoral rolls. The nearest names they had were Hardie - Celtic/Scottish centred around Galashiels & Hardiker which is centred around Preston/Oldham. They are planning to publish the names that occur less than 100 times eventually so fingers crossed.
