confused about sky - tv, broadband and phone and their connections

there is something that is confusing me. when sky send you the router, they also send a microfilter. the microfilter has 2 ports. one described modem, and one described phone. so where the hill am i supposed the plug the sky connection in? at the moment ive got phone socket, connected to microfilter, connected to phone and router and a spare sky cable not connected to anything.
