I am thinking of replacing my PS2 with a PS3, but am not impressed with the fact that the games for the PS2 are not compatible with the PS3. Is this the case with the singstar games and mics too??? If not the games, can the mic be used alone?

Confused, are you getting a PS3 for the online play or the games? If you're getting it for online play don't, their servers are rubbish, but as for the PS2 games not being compatable that sucks, I heard you can play PS1 PS2 and PSP games on it...
From what i gather, it is only early releases of the PS3 that will allow backwards compatibility with PS2 games.

I doubt that the Singstar games would work, if you were to buy a PS3 today.

As for the PS3 playing PS1, PS2 & PSP games, thats just wishful thinking....

@Absinth, will probably want to use it for both!!!
I thought you could use PS2 discs on PS3

It says you can here

On purchasing my ps3 in Game I was told only the ps3 with the 60 or 80 gb hard drives can play some late ps2 titles but with the 40 gb version you can't play any.
Myriad - as i said, it's only the earlier PS3 models that are properly backwards compatible - hence why they are selling for high prices in Japan and the US second hand market!

There have been reports of machines selling upwards of 5-600!
Never had a problem playing PS2 games on my PS3.

However as you say I dont think singstar will work because of the microphone connections.
Strangely, you can play ps1 games on the 40g ps3 but not ps2 games, you may as well keep your ps2, as you will only be able to get around 30 trade-in, so there's not much point, unless you know you wont want to play a ps2 game again. I deffinatly reccomend the ps3 though, it was a good buy, and there are some pretty good games out there.

if u go online on your ps3 do an update and then ps2 games will work on your ps3 or if u get a 60 gb ps3 it can aredy play ps2 games on it
Just to confirm the 40g ps3 is not backward compatible so it cant play any ps2 games, the 60g version can play ps2 games, if you can handle waiting, sony are realeasing an 80g version later this year prob around x-mas which should be backwards compatible again.
