Does anyone know how to get health (ie cheat!) as I have a miniscule amount and can't progress in the game as I keep getting killed.

afraid it's one of those games that you can only unlock the cheats once you complete the game.
Short of going back to a previous save where you had more health and being more careful,theres not a lot you can do.
