State pension age in the West Midlands, Emmie
Question Author
No state pension, no bus pass and no winter fuel payment until I reach state pension age, which in my case will be 66
you don't get winter fuel payments surely not until you are x age,
I'm not sure you get your winter fuel allowance. I think it starts when your pension does.
have you checked with the local council about the bus pass. because you should get it when you turn 60.
Question Author
I have had free prescriptions though for the past 7 years due to medical excemption
>>> where are you, surely you can get a bus pass

Emmie:
The qualifying age for a bus pass used to be 60 throughout the UK. That was because it was the age at a woman became eligible for her state pension (with a man getting their bus pass on the same date as a woman who shared his birthday).

When the state pension age for women started to rise, so did the qualifying age for a bus pass (for both men and women). At least it did in England. The administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland decided to stick with 60 as the qualifying age.

Because the Freedom Pass that Londoners get includes an English national bus pass as well (for senior citizens), the qualifying age for for it has been rising in line with the rules for the rest of England.
