Hi there - I was thinking on making this for mum on Mothers day as she loves macaroni. I would be doing it at her house and know that the rest of the family will come by because its mothers day although they wont stay for tea. Would you think I could make this recipe earlier in the day then put in the oven for the 25 mins once we are ready for it or is that likely to spoil it.
thanks

Interesting question, Joannie. I think it should be OK to finish the cooking off, although as it will have cooled, it will definitely need more cooking than 25 mins to get the temperature back up, before it starts to cook. I would reckon that about an extra ten to twelve minutes should do it!

Good luck!
Hi joanie as a connisseur of macaroni cheese i would say no,you have to make it bake and then eat it,as it goes stodgy and gloopy if left lying!

thank you both for your answer............oh now what to do!! Perhaps I could do the sauce bit at my own house then just boil the macaroni at my mums. Just trying to have as little work to do while there as don't want to be stuck in the kitchen when I could be enjoying some time with the rest of the family, what do you both think?
I defer to Poodi's expertise, so I would do the sauce at home, cook the macaroni at Mums, add the sauce there and bake there.
Make it at home & take it to her but make it wetter than usual so's to keep it moist. Cover with cling film. Serve & nuke it - should be fine. Mine last for 4days without going gloopy.

just incase anyone checks back - I made this on Sunday (my sister had us over for mothers day) - anyway I made the sauce at home then when went to parents boiled the macaroni, added the sauce, put in dish and covered in bread crumbs before putting in oven. It was absolutely delicious!
Excellent - dontya love it when a plan comes together?
Glad you and your mum enjoyed it,macaroni cheese has to be cooked and eaten straight a way, well done
Thanks for the update, Joannie - so now we know that the sauce and macaroni can be prepared separately as long as the final dish is assembled and cooked together!
