I give up! Searched internet to find out how long you boil the condensed milk for. It can be anywhere from 1-5 hours. Can anyone enlighten me through experience?

I usually simmer it in the unopened can for about 2.5 hours.

Mind you, it never gets to the pie, as it is lovely eaten from the can when it is cold.

Well i didn't know that In a pickle....not far from me either (I'm in Lewes)

I always boil mine for exactly 2 hours unopened and it's perfect.
Buy it ready boiled - I do. Carnation Caramel it's called. You can buy it in Morrisons and Somerfield, probably other supermarkets aswell, but I haven't looked.
I have a recipe where the 14oz can of condensed milk is heated gently in a pan together with 4oz of butter, 4oz of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of golden syrup, stirring, until the butter has melted and the sugar dissolved. Bring to a gentle boil and cook for 7 minutes, stirring all the time until the mixture thickens and turns a light caramel colour. Pour this into a pastry case and leave until cold.
