I Just Threw Out A Full Bag Of Spinach

A "washed and ready to eat" bag mind you.
As I was picking through it I came across a leaf with brown matter on the edge. So, do I wash it some more, assume cooking will kill whatever, or in the bin?
My very impressionable gut won, so it went in the bin.
What would you have done.

Ummmm, I would have been paranoid enough to get an upset stomach even if I did that.
Dave, I guess someone doesn't like spinach.
I love spinach. Frozen is so much better. Tastes the same, doesn't shrink.
I once found a strange leaf in a packet of spinach but assumed, probably wrongly, that it wouldn’t grown near poisonous stuff, so removed it and ate the spinach with no ill effects. I love spinach!

If I was sure it was just soil I may not have been questioning what to do. It was the other possible option. I don't make a habit of throwing out food.
Hi Pasta, I've many a time had spinach, rocket or other bags of lettuce where there's been a few leaves that are brown (wet, soggy brown) that i just pick out but use the rest of the bag. A thing I have been doing for quite a while is:-
Open up the plastic bags of any salad leaf (like a packet of crisps)
on an iceburg lettuce, I open up the sealed plastic wrapping, trim the 'end of the stalk' which goes brown & keep taking a thin slice off, everytime it goes brown. I place a sheet of kitchen paper towel, on the plastic wrapping & place the lettuce (stalk side up) & put it in the salad drawer - it keeps for ages.
The other thing I do is, when you open a bag of salad leaves (like said above) I then place a paper kitchen towel on either side of the lettuce, (like a sandwich) this absorbs any moisture & the bag lasts again for ages

Unfortunately this was not "going brown" discoloration. It was brown stuff on the rather damp leaf.

Hope you're keeping well Pasta. If it was soil on the 'ready washed spinach or salad leaves) I simply wash it again anyway. I've told many people about my paper towel salad tip & they've all said it works & have passed the tip on x
I would have rinsed the leaf with the brown stuff on and eaten the whole lot.
Decaying leaves are for the worms !
As a rule we have all the leaves we want from the allotment. Spinnach ,chard and various lettuce. We find the best way of making it last is to wash it and spin it as soon as it gets home.
Place stack the dried leaves in a zip locked bag with the air pressed out of it. They will stay fresh for a week with this method.
As soon as any sign of decaying appears, it goes straight back to the allotment for composting.
Bleughhhh.. rotting leaves !
