One of the children at my daughter's nursery turned 4 on Monday. Instead of having a simple birthDAY, her mother has been celebrating all week with what she calls, her birthWEEK. Parties, days out, endless cake, presents and fuss.

Could it be possible that the child is over indulged??? #1 better not get any fancy ideas...

Must have been some labour!
I can't bear it. I heard a mother the other day talking about the magnificent fancy dress party she was organising for her daughter's SECOND birthday. It's setting the bar much too high - no wonder some children turn out as indulged brats expecting everything on a plate. Ridiculous, IMO.

Ha! I hadn't thought of that, Sipowicz, must ask her!

She is lovely, but this is just bonkers.
It depends what they get to do the rest of the year. If we, as parents, were flat out working, I'd happily do a birthday week.

She's a stay-at-home mum, and I hate to say it, but the kids are both spoilt (there's a younger child too).

I know there are worse things that parents can do to their kids, but surely this is going to cause problems in later life? The kids have the best of everything, and too much of it all. Everything in moderation would be a better approach maybe?
it's always puzzled me why some people leave their 'birth'day cards on show for a week
If they were liberal throughout the year I think a birthday week would be a great idea. Costly though...
aelmpvw....I don't understand why people send them in the first place unless they are gifting money or vouchers.
life is depressing and miserable enough as an adult, Im sure its not going to turn her into a serial killer, let her have some happy memories of childhood, it could be worse at least her parents are actively interested in her.

I think people display birthday cards for a week to get their money's worth out of them, If you bought it for 1.50, handed it over only for it to be binned a few hours later would seem wasteful I suppose

I also wonder how the other kids in the nursery feel when they only have a single day for birthdays. Not everyone can afford to spoil their children like this, or they just don't want to!

My kids get a single day where we have cake, presents and balloons.

I don't think the child will turn into a serial killer, just a spoilt brat with a sense of entitlement. I can see her being the child taken to her first school disco at the age of 6 in a stretch limo...

I think it teaches kids that possessions are the way to show love and affection.

My mother-in-law always has a birthday week like that. Some people are just into birthdays (not me)
its a bit rough to call a 4 year old a brat because her mother made a fuss of her birthday. not all kids end up the spawn of satan because their parents made a fuss of them, I know kids who are now adults who had similar incidents in childhood, they have not become brats, there is more to it than a bit of overindulging.
Well my nearly 16 year old has requested going to Amsterdam for his birthday

I haven't said she IS a brat, but just think that she may turn into one. I don't think that's that same as calling her the spawn of Satan either.

I think the mother is showing her a very materialistic view of live, family and love.

Tell all the other mothers at the nursery and one will soon be organising a birth month.
that may well be the case, but obviously non of us knows what goes on behind closed doors, they may be a loving family.
It's also turning her into a mini-celebrity for a week, IMO - I don't agree with it at all.
We have always celebrated a birth week
Sometimes all the celebrating cannot be done on one day

I have only just taken my cards down from May
I just like having cards up in the house
Must have a well paid husband and too much time on her hands.
