I have won a big bag of marshmallows, can I melt them and use them like marshmallow fluff or is that a different thing entirely, will the results be different?

Either melt them with corn syrup or some butter over a low heat and whisk it together. Fluff is made!
You could also take 2 digestive biscuits, some chocolate and marshmallows. Sandwich them together and heat in the oven until the marshmallows become squidgy and you have S'mores :)
Or you could get a can of yams, and put them (after removing from can) in a baking dish, cover with a few palmfulls of brown sugar an then cover with your marshmallows... makes a great dish (and is a staple for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner here in the U.S.)(We actually use sweet potatos, but don't know if their available in your part of the world...)
Melt a large bar of chocolate, add nuts and cut up marshmallows. Pour into a tin to set. The Americans call it 'Rocky Road'. I used to make it for my Mum, she loved it!
@Clanad...we do have sweet potatoes here-I just bought a few from the green grocers. I-like my mother before me-have never used the marshmallows in baked sweet potatoes-just lots of butter and brown sugar. Anyone who can eat them with marshmallows is a stronger person than me! ;-))
Forgot...cecil-if you have an open fire-toast your marhmallows.
Have them with hot chocolate! Mmmmm..... You can send some up here if you like :) a mug of hot chocolate would warm me up something braw right now!
I have a recipe somewhere for Mississippi mud pie that uses marshmallows, I can find it for you later if you are interested
