I've just been reading through the restaurants that have retained/gained/lost stars this year.

How many of you have been to one or actively wish to visit one? If so, why do/did you want to go and if you have been did you feel it was worth it?

i have never been to one to my knowledge, and don't have a particular desire to spend loads of cash on food that i don't really like the sound of. I'm more of a shepherds pie/macaroni cheese girl, and can't stand all this "jus" veloute" "foam"(sputum) stuff!
There was something in the news, I think about one of Gordon's or Heston's restaurants (not sure if it did have a star) and they were basically serving ready meals!!!! if they did have a star, it was taken off of them, and rightly so.
Not exactly 'ready meals' more pre prepared..

The Gordon 'ready meal' thing was a storm in a soup bowl cooked up by the Daily Mail and its ilk.

I am surprised to read of Helen's bad experience at The Fat Duck though.

Bednobs, even Michelin starred restaurants serve shepherds pie! But yes, it will cost you......lots in some cases.

I'm just getting ready to head out for a spot of lunch (chain restaurant or pub, no stars) and look forward to my return to see what others have to say.

IMO you cant beat a good carvery. The 1 near my dads flat in brum used to do cheap meals at lunch times.I am going back 6 years ago though
i challenge you to find a michelin starred rest. that has shepherds pie on the menu!

no, as it's not a michelin starred palce, sorry!
Ec did say "even Michelin starred restaurants serve shepherds pie"
sorry cont stop, its lunch time now in madrid, for 7 euros, i´ll be eating a fairly good 3 course meal with wine.
I've been to several Michael Caines restaurants (within Abode Hotels) through the course of my work. The food, presentation and restaurants are exquisite. A very pleasant experience and worth every penny. Especially the one at Chester.
I like a veggie subway - you can't beat it and the salad is crisp and fresh
am hoping to visit the fat duck with my family for my next milestone birthday. we're all looking forward to what i hope will be a good all-round experience. i've heard good and not so good about it, but i've heard good and bad about all kinds of restaurants so am prepared to take my chances.
went to jamie oliver's '15' restaurant in london as a surprise anniversary treat about five years ago, again, with the family. it was great, a real buzz about it and the food was great although i doubt it's michelin starred.
I went to one locally last year. My mum was really ill afterwards. We think it was the razor clams but to be fair it might have been an intolerance rather than food poisoning. The setting was lovely (over the Thames) but I wouldn`t go again. I like proper food with decent portions and it was all a bit poncey really.
piggy....menu del dia.....7€........that is cheap....it is twice that in Menorca.

redhelen, I know what you mean having trained as a chef myself your expectations are quite high. Having said that, I still expect Loch Fyne to attempt to serve their spinach grit free, they hadn't done so today!

bednobs, Northcote Manor used to have shepherds pie on the menu, I've just looked and it is absent at the moment.

I've eaten at Michael Caines Gidleigh Park and the food was good, I haven't tried any of his diffusion restaurants though.

Personally I enjoyed The Fat Duck and have had a few good pub lunches at his pub next door.

I haven't been to JO's 15 restaurants but have enjoyed a few visits to his 'Jamie's Italian' chain, although was surprised that despite being an Italian inspired menu there was surprisingly little for vegetarians.
