Bit of a challenge that one! I can't see how you can have a low carb veg diet as most veg contains carbs. I suppose it's a matter of eating more of whatever is your main protien source and less of the rest. Trouble is you are already restricting your diet so to restrict it further is going to prove challenging and possibly dangerous.

Ummm... I think I have to respectfully disagree.  Soy based products are naturally high in protein and low in carbohydrates.  For example, 7 ounces of tofu, which can be used in a wide variety of dishes has 150 calories, 16 grams of protein and only 4 grams of carbs. Soy flour has no gluten for those who suffer gluten intolerance. I use tofu in a great Hot and Sour Chinese soup as well as other dishes. I'm adamantly non-vegeterian, but soy products are great in many applications...

Clanad, you are right about soy.

But you're talking about your own omnivorous diet.

For a veggie to cut back on carbs and eat vast amounts of one food type (in this case Soy) would be potentially damaging, and not just from a nutritional viewpoint. Soy has side effects if eaten in large quantities - upset stomach/bloating/wind etc.

The best way to lose weight on a veggie diet is to eat sensible portions of carbs like brown rice, brown bread, wholemeal pasta, and potatoes with skins on, alongside an assortment of  animal proteins, e.g. eggs, milk, yogurt and cheese, and a good mix of non-animal proteins, e.g. soya, pulses, nuts. And fill up on green leafy veg if you are still peckish. Snack on fruit rather than chocolates or sweets and you will be fine.

As a veggie who tried a low carb plan i found it almost impossible after a week or so and couldnt face another egg for WEEKS! As everyone else has said just give it a miss.
