You can have some fun with it sometimes, can be embarrasing when they open it up at work.
Once (after a row) I put loads of chilli, which he hates, in his sarnies....

Better that than they spend money on expensive lunches from the local deli or coffee shop...
I leave Redman meals in his freezer for some of the evenings when I am not there just a little sign I care really..
.Used to do ex's sarnies and put little notes in the box with the odd treat..heart shaped choccies etc
Somewhere in my past food and love have got very badly confused.....

This was always a tradition in previous generations - the stay-at-home wife would make sure her wage-earning husband had lunch - it was simply the way things were.
These days, far more women go out to work, and couple that with the increase in takeaway food and sandwich bars, which were never an option years ago - and the dynamic shifts considerably.
I think if any man or woman wants to make lunch for their partner, that's between them, and to try and make it some kind of Womens' Lib / domestic drudgery debate suggests these older collagues have too much time on their hands!
Oh, and since my wife works from home most of the time, or is staying in hotels when she is away, she doesn't need sandwiches. I don't really like sandwiches from home, so it's not an issue for us - but if either of us wanted them, the other would make them with no problem.

Doesn't apply now but like nox it was pretty much a case of who was in the kitchen and shift times. I know it was a different era bt when I started work in1966 mum would pack up for my dad, me and my two sisters as I got older if I was on afters and stopped over and she was still up wgen I got in she would always do me something if I wanted it. However it also cut the other way if I called for a quick pint but still got in about the same time as normal I'd more chance of winning the lottery then I had of getting even a cuppa and a biscuit. I can still hear her saying " if beers more important then food don't expect me to feed you"
Hi poodicat. Yes, I do. He used to do his own but after his heart attack I like to do them to make sure he is getting the right things. In fact I enjoy doing them. I am retired now so it's not a problem.
Basically though, it's up to the couple what they do. No business of anybody else.
Nice seeing you. x

i make my other halfs and my daughters in one go i enjoy it, im always creating different fillings and using different breads they dont expect it though and if i dont make it then they will buy thier lunches it costs a lot less in the long run!!! and its a damn sight healthier!!! lol i wouldnt have ripped the mick out of your work collegue i would have swapped recipes!!!! hehe
When my partner started staying over some nights at my flat, I said I'd make his sandwiches, then he moved in and I've always made them, sometimes I cant be bothered and say 'make your sarnies' his reply is always 'I'll do them in the morning' I know he wont he'll either waste money at the garage or he'll make peanut butter sandwiches which isnt my idea of a lunch. so I end making them anyway.
