We were talking this morning about things that people won't put together. My mum had a thing about never serving tomatoes or peas with fried or poached eggs and suggest fish and chips with baked beans and her withering scorn had to be heard to be believed, so we all grew up believing it; it came as a shock when we found others do. On the other hand she would quite happily dish up tripe and onions with chips.

Do other families have family taboos or strange combinations of their own, like that?

It should be a hangable offence NOT to have beans with fish and chips...infact i'd have beans with every dinner if i could....cold though, no point heating them up and making them tasteless !!!!!!

If you go to Heston Blumentaal's Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, anything goes, and the more esoteric the better. Snails with porridge, Roasted ***** comb with raspberry coulis. You name it. He's probably cooked it.
I am like you mamyalynne - I like gammon steak and pineapple but never together. Dont take cranberry with my turkey or apple sauce with pork!

my mum likes a jam and cheese sandwich! Oh and cheese should never be with tuna!! Probably could come up with a whole list now I have started.

Sugar and fruit. In my book fruit should never be sweetened. This rules out a lot of puddings as you can imagine!

Ah! That is the one, single exception to the rule (I think it's the only one, anyway!)

Thanks!
