You may need to catch a flight down to Gatwick. Kitties should get in free.
You have to pay?

My mum took us to Scone Palace one day but when she found out there was a fee to get in she took us all te way hom again.

Us Scots are 'prudent' with our money.
Off to see a couple of girlfriends tonight who are house hunting at the moment and I've just had a very excitable text saying they might have found 'the one' so I guess I'll be getting the update on that. Then dad's making me tea on Sunday and Monday will be chores day then I suppose.

I've also just booked a trip to the Lake District for the next May bank holiday so I'm quite chuffed about that.
tigger, have you joined the National Trust? If you haven't then do! There are so many brilliant places to visit in the South-East, e.g. Sissinghurst, Chartwell, Bodiam Castle, Nymans, Sheffield Park Gardens, Igtham Mote, etc etc.

Your membership fee will repay itself in the first season.

Have fun on Monday. I wouldn't venture too far in a car on May Bank Holiday Monday, but I hope you have a great time.

How much is membership?
35 direct debit, 48 otherwise, for a year. You'll need to see five or six properties to cover it but there are plenty around. (They're usually not open in winter, though.) You're not allowed to take photos inside properties, which I find annoying - they want you to pay another 5+ for their guidebooks.
PS the 35 is just an introductory rate.

I'd love to go to the Lake District. I've heard its very beautiful.

I have thought about joining the National Trust but I don't get to go to places very often. Last year I managed Longleet and Hever Castle. As you mat have gathered I absolutely love Hever. It is a wonderful place to visit.

I may be going to Wales in June and Isle of Wight in July as well.
Do I get discounts on parks and beaches too or is just for castles and properties? (I've nothing against them but I like a bit of nature too).

Ooooh.... Impressive isn't it? I had in my head it was some sort of stuffy old establishment... I think I might join that! (Well, next month considering I've just brought the other tickets and paid the bills!) I'm bookmarking the site though so I don't forget.
NT membership is well worth it. Knowing that car-parking and entry are free is a fair incentive to visit places. My favourite is Polesden Lacy, I go by train to Box Hill and then cycle (or rather, push the bike up the hills). Very reachable from Croydon.

Lake district is nice , almost as good as the west coast of scotland .From loch lomond up to lich ness via oban and fort william
Question Author
I'm going to research it further and see which places are accessible for me before I consider joining.
I don't drive at all (fully encouraged not to by anyone that knows me) and living in Central London really don't see the point but it's easy enough to get most places via public transport I think. I'm looking at the relaxing days out to unwind in. Looks promising, I hate being in the city all the time.
Question Author
I tried to find Loch Lomond on Google Earth but I couldn't!

:o(
You're not far from me Tiggs are you really? Do you not drive either then?
There's not many costal days out I've noticed but I suppose that's not so bad really. I guess lakes and rivers are very pretty too!
tiggs it gives you loch lomond in the usa

google glitch eh ?
