Can anyone please remind me what the name of the 80s desert was that was bascially two packets of mixture - one sponge, the other sauce. You just added water and baked. During the cooking time, the sauce sank to the bottom and the sponge rose to the top.

Thanks

Ah - Magic Pudding. No idea about a packet version but I have a choccy one which work the same way which you have to make from scratch - but well worth it.

4 oz SR flour, marg, and sugar. 2 level tabspns cocoa (mixed with the flour) 2 eggs or 1 egg and a little milk. Cream marg and sugar, add egg(s) and a few spoons flour mix. Stir in remaining flour. Put in ovenproof dish.

Blend 3 rounded tabspns cocoa and same of sugar. Sprinkle onto uncooked pud mix. Gently pour over 3/4 pint of boiling water. Bake 35-40 mins no.4 or 180.

Just the mention of this pud on a thread on ab once got me a marriage proposal!
the one you are thinking of is Saucy Sponge. I remember I was working in a supermarket as a saturday girl and my mum had seen it advertised and kept on at me to get one as soon as they got the new stock delivered.
Ooooooo yeah!

I loved this pudding- im off to google it now.....
Ooohh rabbity that sounds lovely - can you use drinking chocolate instead of cocoa do you think? Maybe then you wouln't need any sugar. I have neither sugar nor cocoa - come to think of it, i don't think I have self raising flour either - think I will need to go to the shops anyway!!!
