Hi everyone, my husband will be 40 on 5 November - yep bonfire night and I would love to throw him a surprise party. He has lots of family but I don't know them all or where they live. I have asked his mum to let me have names and addresses so that I can send them all invitations however she is just not getting back to me despite my harrassing her!! Has anyone got any ideas of where I can hold a surprise 40th - I live on the Wirral in Merseyside, or has anyone got any ideas of themes etc? Waiting anxiously for your replies as I haven't got a clue what to do. Thanks.

Hi minnie
Has hubby got an address book or one that you've both got with mutual friends - that would be a start. Mobile phone friends/family?
Brothers/sisters will help if his mum can't.
Have you thought about the fact that he wouldn't want anything - hence mum not being co-operative????
When I held one for my hubby it was very intimate, just immediate family. Everyone knew and my sister arranged entertainment, which I didn't even know about - a belly dancer! It was a great evening.
I had to make arrangements for people staying the night too, especially if they are from further afield.

Oh I forgot to mention, think about the cake, decorations, drink/food suppliers, hiring glasses or buying plastic ones etc...

Hi Jack, thanks. I think he would enjoy a party actually as he's said a few times that he may like one but I just keep passing it off. Anyway you have given me a few things to think about so again, thanks.
my brothers 30th was on the 4th November last year, and we threw him a surprise bonfire party at home. we had fireworks, a bonfire cake, sparklers, a 'guy' - he loved it!

awkward one with the invites...has he got siblings that could perhaps help with rallying the troops together? not bypassing his mum or anything, though saying that you've got months yet! the closer you can leave it to the big day the less chance there is of someone accidently letting slip. if you watch gavin & stacey, it's exactly like that leading up to a surprise party!!

Thanks EmEd that's a good idea. I haven't seen Gavin & Stacey although everyone in work is talking about it so I will have to see it.
