Can anyone suggest any novel accompaniments for smoked haddock ? As a kid I remember if we had haddock, that was it, just a piece of haddock with a slab of butter. It was never regarded as a main meal, only a sort of light snack.

I rather fancy trying it again now. I think chilled cherry tomatoes would work with it, and maybe mashed potato. Rice, pasta, are definitely not going to work.

Whiffs, why wouldn't rice or pasta work? My mum served it in a curry with rice often.

You could have it with
- Pasta
- Couscous
- Add it in a sandwich
- Served with sauted Brussel sprouts and cherry tomatoes
- Rice pilaf

You might get some ideas here also.
Rice would go with as in Kedergeree-tho I admit that is not my cup of tea. I do agree with combining the haddock with tomatoes,as they seem to compliment and mellow the 'fishy-ness' of the haddock. i always seem to have haddock in a fish pie or on its own with spinach and a poached egg

Thanks, some nice ideas, I am taken with the spinach, so tonight it's 2 large pieces of haddock with cherry tomatoes and spinach. HP sauce feels right to go with it.
I like to fry a bit of smoked haddock - undyed - in a tempura batter made with corn flour - this goes nice and crispy and doesn't absorb any oil (groundnut) like a traditional batter. Small bowl of chunky coleslaw to accompany. Not as healthy as staemed, with spinach and cherry toms, but as a treat... (No HP sauce...)
If I ate fish (which as you know, I don't) I think I'd go for McNoodle's tempura, served on a bed of shredded lettuce and provide a little bowl of chilli & tomato sauce to dip the tempura into....

I make a wicked mixed vegetable tempura - button mushrooms, sliced courgette, cooked potato, cauliflower florets, chunks of red peppers and a few pineapple chunks to add to the interest and I add some chilli pepper to the wholewheat flour used in the batter... awesome served up with lettuce and soya sauce... (also fun cos you never know exactly what you are about to bite into lol)

Well, that was a great meal, 2 huge pieces (400g) of smoked haddock, spinach, chilled cherry tomatoes, a big wodge of ASDA chicken and bacon potato mash, and HP sauce.

I will do it again !! Brilliant.
I'm a huge fan of smoked hadock and normally would say your quite right ,hot smoked fish, cool salsa or even riata, but for sunday dinner this week I made oak smoked pollok with crushed potatoes and roasted vine cherry tomatoes.so easy and so tasty.lightly warm the fish in butter and olive oil mix, )boil the potatoes add fresh parsley, butter and crush with a fork.not too much of course, the tomatoes should have been roasting for about 20 mins perhaps with a small splash of balsamic vinegar .served with strong garlic bread and a nice dry chennin blanc.a slight variation on your original menu but ni hope you give it a try
