To settle an argument can anybody tell me whether a currant tea cake is classed as bread or as a bun?

cake
Definitely cake. You can get fruit loaf which is more like bread
I would say its a bun.
oh dear... hope i don't stir things up...i would've said bread myself.
They look like flatter versions of hot cross buns to me.
Just like a bread bun but with fruit in it. I eat packs of them every week as they are my favourite breakfast food.
In Scotland, they are included in the classification 'tea breads'.
