Beef wellington is quite a heavy meal, so you need something light.

Seafood would be good - not at all filling.
I would go for, onion or watercress soup.
Shrimp cocktail?
smoked mackerel pate and melba toast, all made in advance.
mmm I love what ethandon has suggested but what about blinis (sp) little russian pancakes. Just warm in oven or grill and then put some philidelphia with garlic and herbs and a little bit of smoked salmon. Is quite light - suppose could just be served with predinner drinks. Also like little goats cheese tartlets. Can be done with ready made tartlets (small if dont want too filling) little bit of goats cheese and some caramelised onion chutney from markies.
A bottle of wine and a packet of sainsburys taste the difference chorizo flavour crisps should do the trick ;-)
